MAYS LANDING-- This is the last full weekend to fit in holiday shopping before Christmas and malls and shopping plazas are busier than ever.
With only a few more days until Christmas, the mall is packed with shoppers in search of the perfect present. Most every store is offering bigger discounts and slashing prices. "Sales everywhere...we got 50 percent off so it's really cool."
"I think stores know that the economy isn't as good and prices are really fair...been a lot of deals."
Some just can't wait to finish their shopping. "Today is the worst I've seen the mall all season, every other time I've come by there's been parking and no lines, but I'm pretty much buying gift certificates and easy things...put that off to the end...so that makes it easier to get in line, get my stuff and go."
The longest lines here at the mall are for a visit with the guy in the big red suit, and with only four more days until his big night, he's making his list and checking it twice to find out who's naughty or nice. "I like going here...and sit on Santa's lap...it's fun," said 7 year old Mary Jane.
This ten year old explains why it's extremely important to wait patiently to speak with Santa Claus. "Because it's...I don't know, it just a little quick review...have you been good, or naughty or bad or nice...what we want and stuff like that."
And these children know exactly what's topping their list. "I can only ask for one thing, that's what my mom says...the littlest pet shop," said Mary Jane.
"Lucky the incredible wonder pup," said 7-year-old, Jessica.
"I'm guessing a baseball bat, new one probably."
"I do want a guitar hero..." said 4-year-old, Cyrus.
There's high hopes that some fresh baked cookies will help sweeten the deal. "Peanut butter, Butterfinger...these are all kinds my family made...chocolate chip, sugar...stuff like that...I can't name all of them cause we made too many."
So, these kids will be on their best behavior until Santa comes down the chimney.
