MAYS LANDING--The trial began Monday for two Atlantic City men charged with killing a North Jersey man at Stanley Holmes Village.

Jy Smartel and Jeremiah Hurt are charged with murder and weapons offenses in connection with the August 2006 shooting of Eduardo Gomez, 26. Police say Gomez was found lying in a pool of blood in a courtyard near Wabash Avenue.

Law enforcement officials took the stand as the state presented its case.

Smartel and Hurt are each being held $1 million bail.
