MARGATE -- A visit to the United States turns deadly for a man visiting from overseas, who was fatally stabbed in Margate over the weekend. Authorities have captured some things of interest on surveillance video, and are now asking the public for help.

Authorities aren't saying much about the events surrounding the deadly stabbing, but they are calling the victim, 37 year-old Lavern Ritch, a good samaritan. Now they need the publics help in tracking down his killer.

Officials hope pictures taken from a surveillance camera will help them piece together events leading up to the stabbing death of Ritch, around 2 AM Sunday morning. Authorities want to speak to the man seen in the pictures, although they're not labeling him as a suspect.

Officials say the man was asked to leave Maynard's Bar just after one o'clock in the morning, and may've returned a short time later. "We're looking for people who might know this individual and can identify him for us," said Atlantic County Prosecutor, Ted Housel, "especially if this individual came back with a fresh wound over his left eye."

Authorities say Ritch "intervened in something" but wouldn't elaborate any further. The killing is making headlines here and in the U.K. Voted one of Wales' most eligible bachelors in 2002, Ritch was described as a swimming instructor who was a fitness freak who loved to dance.

Ritch's killing has stunned residents on both sides of the Atlantic. "We met him that night," said one woman who didn't want to be identified, "he was a really nice guy, not someone that would cause trouble for anyone."

Again, authorities are asking the public for help. Anyone with information is asked to contact the major crimes unit at
(609) 909-7666.

This is the first murder in almost six and half years in the normally quiet city of Margate.

Anyone with information is asked to call Major Crimes at 609-909-7666 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-658-8477.
