RIO GRANDE - At 75 years old Sri Chinmoy is trying to teach the world that physical boundaries are all in the head.
"The mind hesitates and the mind doubts, but I you live in the heart this problem does not arise. Heart is oneness," says Chinmoy.
For more than 20 years He has been traveling around the world gaining followers for his self–empowering philosophy and ability to move heavy objects, even if only a short distance.
"He's doing something that one else has ever really done before. Even experts in bodybuilding and weightlifting say that they are astounded by that he's doing," says Chinmoy’s student Ashrita Furman who has used his master’s teachings to set dozens of world records himself.
Using specially designed apparatus, Chinmoy likes to honor individuals by lifting them and their prize possessions.
Officials from the Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum say they came into contact with Chinmoy recently when one of his students called to see if there was anything and anyone that needed some lifting up.
"We thought it was sort of a joke but as time went on it really did turn out to be something that we thought would be really interesting, great for the public," says Museum chairman Joseph Salvatore.
"I think he's got an internal strength that a lot of people aren't going to get. You can see it in him, in his eyes. He's there and he's got something special going on," says John Shaw whose catamaran was lifted by Chinmoy.
The strong man is also an author, musician, artist and songwriter.
"I try to give you joy by lifting you up, you by being lifted up try to give me joy. It is mutual."
Carl Behrens was in his sailboat when Chimoy lifted is with his calves.
"Well you know I don't know so much about the message but it's pretty impressive that a guy that age could perform such a feat."
