EGG HARBOR TWP.- An Egg Harbor Township teenager is headed to Hollywood to prove to the nation that he's got talent.
"America's Got Talent" is hitting the road in search of the best act in America. Do you think you have what it takes to be the next million-dollar winner? Well, 16-year-old, Alexander Bui does. "I play this with my heart…it works my mind and soul."
He began learning to play under his mother, a graduate of the Vietnamese Conservatory of Music, when he was just 4 years old. "It was actually very hard work for her, she sacrificed a lot of her time each week...it takes a lot of effort to teach me such as a young kid," Bui explained.
After taking a short break from piano when he started high school to play sports, Alex sprung back, better than ever and began studying under internationally renowned pianists. "You've got to enjoy the piano. I mean, it's like any other sport, you've got to practice to get better."
Alex says all that practice paid off. In May, he entered a you tube video of himself playing "The Toccata" written for him by his teacher, Edward R. Nelson, to become a contestant on "America's Got Talent". And last week he got the good news. "Last Friday they called me and told me I was top 15 for the show…I didn't really know I would really be in the show."
But he does know, that with his family, teachers and friends behind him, he's got what it takes to win. "I'm pretty confident I can do it, there's no doubt, especially with that piece...I think I can pull it off."
If Alex is lucky enough to become one of the top 12 finalists, you can watch him perform for the judges Tuesday, August 10th. But from there, he'll need your votes to become season five's best act in America.
"America's Got Talent", airs Tuesday's and Wednesday's at 9 p-m, right here on NBC 40.
