ATLANTIC CITY-- Elmer and Miriam McNamara have been married for 57 years. Today they look back on their wedding like it was yesterday.
“It's fabulous. We're fortunate enough to still be together and we wanted to reaffirm our love and our commitment,” said Miriam McNamara.
At Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall the McNamara’s joined 139 couples for the Valentine's Day Group Wedding, Civil Union and Vow Renewal. The McNamara’s admit they love sharing their special day.
“We're glad to be here and it's beautiful. We enjoy it every year,” said McNamara.
The event, in its third year is attracting couples from 13 states and as far as Kansas and Illinois. Many travel to say their vows for the first time. Some say they will always remember today and especially that first newlywed kiss.
“Fireworks, yes definitely. It was wonderful, it was very exciting yes. I am happy everyone is celebrating, it's so nice to be able to share it with a lot of people,” said newlyweds Emily Spreng and Dave Allen.
With the ceremony complete and the festivities underway many agree that Atlantic City always had some love in the air.
“It speaks to our history as a great place for weddings and honeymoons. It speaks to all the great new things that are happening in Atlantic City and a new beginning for Atlantic City as well as these couples,” said Vice President of Marketing for Atlantic City Convention and Visitors Authority Maureen Siman.
The event is growing. Making more memories for more couples every year. Many lovebirds like newlyweds Jason and Renee Hester plan to relive a very special Valentine's Day.
“One of a kind, yeah one of a kind. We will definitely come back next year to renew our vows,” they said.
“We never thought it would get this big, but I’ll tell you a little secret, my personal goal is that we're in the main arena with 10,000 couples. Give us a couple of years; I think we are going to get there,” said Siman.
