ATLANTIC CITY--A major move in the development of a one of a kind boardwalk holocaust memorial.

Atlantic City Boardwalk Holocaust Memorial Inc. recently launched an international design competition to secure a layout for the structure, which will be located on the boardwalk between New York and Kentucky Avenues.

Thursday, the group announced that it has secured a world-class jury to judge the competition, including internationally known architect Daniel Liebeskind, the master planner commissioned to rebuild the World Trade Center site in New York City.

“It's very exciting. It's going to be a major project and a major undertaking and we're happy that the city of Atlantic City is hosting it. Mayor Langford is our honorary chair and this is the beginning of the second phase of the effort,” said Kaleem Shabazz, chair of the Holocaust Memorial Committee.

The competition runs through March 15, 2010, after which time six finalist designs will be displayed at Atlantic City locations in the summer of 2010 for the public to see.
