MAYS LANDING--In honor of the upcoming Veteran’s Day holiday, one local school is hoping a special 3-day military awareness event, will make a lasting impression on students.
At the George Hess School in Mays Landing, it's day two of a 3-day event, designed to bring awareness to the sacrifices that our military members, past and present, have made.
Organizer also say it gives students more of an idea of "who" the men and women serving our country, really are.
“There's only just so much you can do in a classroom in explaining it, it's always better to hear it from a primary source, to hear from their first hand experience,” says Principal Jennifer Baldwin.
Experiences that Tuesday’s guests say they are more than happy to pass along, in hopes that the students can grasp the true meaning of the holiday.
“Just learning what we do. Learning what Veteran’s Day is and how important it should be to them,” says Sgt. Laura Heffer of the U.S. Air Force.
Students from grades pre-k through the 5th grade took part in the activities, which included a flag raising and individual class discussions.
