ATLANTIC CO.--- Bringing a smile to a child's face with a toy is what the Atlantic Co. Toys For Kids Program does, year round -- and this year they expect to be even busier.
"...With the economy tough, people losing their jobs, no kid wants to get up Christmas morning and not have a toy," said Sgt. Greg DePiano, "....if we can help five, six thousand kids this year, at least we'll be putting a significant dent."
Relying almost exclusively on donations, the toys for kids program is already putting out toy drop-off boxes around Atlantic County. The organization will also accept money donations although the say gift cards are preferred.
Additionally, anyone driving down New Rd. in Northfield can drop off any brand new, unwrapped toys at the office of Mercado Real Estate -- something thats happens unexpectedly at times according to Alex Mercado, "....we're standing out here today in front of my office and a woman just pulled up randomly...popped her trunk and said 'is this where we drop off the toys' she said 'I had a cocktail party at my house...told everybody, don't bring a present, don't bring food, bring an unwrapped toy, brand new', and that's where we got three, four bags brand new toys."
