For months now, the gubernatorial race here has been a tight one, with republican Chris Christie taking a very slight lead in several polls. Incumbent Jon Corzine was right behind, keeping things very interesting and very unpredictable right until the end, but for Christie, that ending was a happy one.
“This election was, and is about the future of the state we love, the great state of New Jersey,”
A state, that with republican Chris Christie's 49 to 45 percent win over incumbent democrat Jon Corzine, has seen somewhat of a turn around since the last election.
As you can see by this graphic, there has been a dramatic switch in "lack" of democratic representation in New Jersey's 21 counties in this election compared to last, with Christie picking up 5 previously democratic counties, opting this time to go red, including Atlantic County.
At his concession speech last night, Corzine spoke of his personal congratulatory call to Christie and said he is looking forward to still making a difference in the garden state.
“We will work hard together to make sure that the transition is smooth...that we are able to do everything that serves the people of this great state.”
As for Christie, the 47 year"old former U"S District Attorney, who managed to secure the governor's seat despite being outspent by more than 12 million dollars by Corzine, is eager to get to work.
“I stand here tonight, full of hope for our future, full of expectations and dreams, not just for my children, but for all the children of NJ and Kim and I are going to get to work to make that happen starting tomorrow.”
