ASSEMBLY RACE TIGHT ON ELECTION EVE

SOUTH JERSEY--- Incumbent 1st District Assemblymen, Nelson Albano and Matt Milam, along with Republican challengers Michael Donohue and John McCann, expect tomorrows election to go down to the wire.

"...I know that people are very much behind us," said a confident Nelson Albano, Monday afternoon, "...we just went out there and did what we had to do, we campaigned hard."

Albano is looking to win a third term, while Milam is running for a second -- but both men are trying, at least subtlety, to distance themselves from Governor Jon Corzine and his low approval ratings. All of this taking place in a relatively conservative district, against two strong Republican challengers.

The two Democrats say they've gotten the message from voters, loud and clear -- lower our property taxes, "....two years just wasn't enough to get our agenda done and we have the plan along with Senator Van Drew and Assemblyman Albano and myself, we have a plan on how to reduce it so we can get property tax, whether its in a rebate form or just lowering property taxes," said Milam.

Republican challengers Michael Donohue and John McCann say they've tapped into a very disgruntled electorate that's fed up with what they say is a state government run by tax and spend Democrats. The two also claim that their rivals voted with Corzine 95% of the time.

"....They go to Trenton and they vote as Democrats and then they come into Cape May County in the 1st District and they tell everyone how conservative they are and its just the opposite, their voting record proves they're voting very liberal, they're voting for every tax that comes down the road, everytime the governor needed some support on very controversial legislation, these two gentlemen jumped up and voted yes," said McCann.
