CAMDEN-- “I am back because we are two days away,” said President Obama.
Well, the third time may be the charm. Today President Obama campaigned on behalf of fellow Democrate Jon Corzine. This is the third time Obama has aided Corzine, in a nail biter of a gubernatorial race
“At this point in the campaign you heard all the arguments, you've seen all the TV ads, you know the facts of this race,” said Obama.
While speaking at a rally at the Susquehanna Bank Center, in Camden, President Obama shed light on the tough economic climate.
“Too many folks who are out of work, too many folks who are looking for a job, too many hard working families being squeezed by a skyrocketing cost of everything on one side and shrinking wages on the other side,” he said.
Both Obama and Corzine highlighted education and the current financial stress associated with acquiring a college degree.
Obama stated, “you've got men and women with who worked hard all their lives, done all the right things and now they're worried about whether they're going to be able to send their kids to college.”
“We're investing four billion in new school construction, the largest in the nation,” said Corzine.
Corzine addressed the states top voter issue, the high New Jersey property tax, a topic of criticism for the incumbent governor.
Corzine said, “I put more, put more money into property tax rebates then any governor in New Jersey's history. Expanded the property tax freeze for 70,000 seniors.”
All three candidates in the governor’s race where campaigning this weekend. Republican candidate Chris Christie held a "get"out"the"vote" rally in Toms River and South Jersey local Chris Daggett was in Ocean City yesterday. However, Corzine is getting a little extra help from his celebrity endorsements.
“It was amazing. It was very exciting just to be in the same room with Corzine and Barack Obama. It was amazing. I will never forget this day,” said Trenton resident Ruth Davila.
Candidates in the governor's race are trying to finish the campaign trail strong, in a race that is deadlocked. Currently, Corzine leads Christie by only one percent in the latest Stockton College Poll.
