VINELAND--- Afflicted with a rare and potentially fatal blood disease, a 10 year old boy from Vineland will soon need a bone marrow transplant.
"...Aplastic Anemia comes in three different forms, severe, moderate and mild, and he unfortunately has severe," said Stacey Barner, about her son Michael, who was diagnosed with the rare blood disease this past February.
So far non of the treatments he's received at Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania have been successful, which leaves one last option -- a bone marrow transplant, "....the finding of a compatible donor right now is crucial," said Mary Barner, Michael's grandmother.
Monday night at 'Uncle Ricky's Bar' in Vineland, a fundraiser bar-b-que was held to help the Barner family with ever growing medical bills -- but more importantly to get the word out about a very special event in Millville tomorrow.
On Tuesday afternoon, from 3:00 until 7:00, 'The Little Gym of Millville' will hold a bone marrow drive, in the hope of finding a suitable match for Michael. The screening process, which takes a few minutes, involves a cheek swab and some paperwork.
The Little Gym of Millville is located at 2120 North 2nd Street.
Additionally anyone who would like to help out the Barner family financially, can make a donation to the 'Special Needs Trust Account for Michael Barner' at the Newfield National Bank, in Newfield NJ.
