OCEAN CITY -- The Chip Miller Memorial Surf Fest brings some of the biggest names in the sport to the beaches of Ocean City.
"This is the biggest and best surf event of the summer," according to Matt Ellison, one of the hosts of today's Surf Fest on the 7th Street beach.
"This year we have Bethany Hamilton, Dean Randazzo, Kevin Richards and Rob and Chris Kelly from Ocean City," says Bob Tanner of Ocean Minded Footwear.
Along with the star power, the event also provides great competetion for area surfers. But the event's real cause is to raise awareness of a disease that caused the death of the event's namesake, Chip Miller.
"Amyloidosis took my father's life in 2004," says Lance Miller, Chip's son and organizer of the Surf Fest. "A lot of people don't know they have it and doctors don't know how to diagnosis it so we're trying to spread the word as best we can."
Miller says the growth he's seen in the event since it's beginning shows just how united the surfing community is.
"It's kind of neat that they're all coming together for a good cause, it's just great to see that, the support that's here is just bar none."
The event moves to the mainland tonight where car lovers might be interested in the Corvette Show, one of many activities going on at Greate Bay Country Club in Somers Point.
