Nearly 70 home improvement contractors across the state were fined more than $1 million due to alleged violations of consumer protection laws.
The New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs has issued notices of violation to 68 contractors, seeking a total of more than $1.3 million in civil penalties and consumer restitution, based on complaints.
Of those penalized, five were in our area, including Dalton Carpentry in Egg Harbor City, Empire Construction in Pleasantville, and Tri-City Kitchens in Vineland, all of which were unregistered.
Also cited were Matthew Kessel of Galloway and OP Construction Home Repairs, LLC of Atlantic City
Some of the issues involve consumers who paid for work that was never finished, or for operating without being registered.
