Long awaited road construction project to begin Monday

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTIC CITY - By the end of the year, visitors and residents alike will be able to enjoy a smooth drive through Atlantic City.  The long-anticipated Pacific Avenue milling and resurfacing project, financed by the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority, is scheduled to begin the week of June 16.

This first phase consists of construction of ADA-compliant pedestrian crossings at the curb, as well as installation of 14 new street lights along Pacific Avenue and 5 traffic lights each along the beach blocks of Florida, Bellevue and Texas avenues.

Construction will be done in two areas simultaneously: Missouri Avenue to the end of Hartford Avenue, and New Jersey Avenue to Indiana Avenue.  At no time will traffic be detoured from Pacific Avenue.  At any given time, drivers in each area will encounter only a two block section with a reduced traffic flow of one lane in each direction.  Jitneys will not be able to stop in the construction areas; riders will need to use the block before or after the construction areas.

The first blocks with the reduced lanes are from Missouri to Georgia avenues and New Jersey to Delaware avenues.  The project is being prioritized in order to complete key areas such as Missouri to Texas avenues prior to the Miss America Competition.

Milling and repaving of Pacific Avenue will be completed in late fall 2014.

Traffic update press releases will be issued periodically to alert drivers and jitney customers as to which blocks will be under construction.  Updates will also be posted at www.njcrda.com
