Elizabeth Correon says there was one thing going through her head when she saw a baby was trapped under a car just a couple of doors down.

“Get the baby out! Get the baby out. That is all," said Correon.

"I just heard people screaming so I came outside to see what had happened, cause I had the door open. From here I could see that everyone was on the car,” she said.

Correon and other nearby neighbors on Flatbush Avenue in Egg Harbor Township sprung into action and rushed over to lift the car to free the child underneath.

"While we was all doing it everyone was just trying to get the baby out,” said Correon.

Police are still investigating happened in this driveway Tuesday afternoon but right now they're calling it an unfortunate accident.

"We believe the child maybe ran in back of the car. Believe the child was playing in the side yard,” said Lt. Robert gray of the Egg Harbor Township Police Department.

The child and her mother were taken via helicopter to Cooper Hospital in Camden.

Lieutenant Gray called the quick reaction of the neighbors ‘amazing.’

"We have amazing residents in Egg Harbor Township who always want to get involved and help their fellow neighbors,” said Gray, who hopes this tragic accident serves as an eye-opener.

"You've got kids around in these neighborhoods. Watch out when you back up or when you're driving the kids could pop up out of anywhere,” he said.

Meanwhile neighbors are just hoping their quick action was enough to prevent a tragedy.

"I hope everything's alright with the baby,” said Correon.

Authorities say the 14-month-old, who suffered a head injury, is now in stable condition.
