"The weather is fantastic. It feels like it's a kick off to the summer season here in Stone Harbor," said Rhonda VanArsdale, a Stone Harbor resident.
Folks here in Stone Harbor spent their afternoon enjoying fine food and live music at the annual Seafood Festival. But also, people were celebrating one of the biggest sporting events of the year with a traditionally infamous fashion contest.
"The Kentucky Derby is the most exciting two minutes in sports and it's happening today. I won the hat contest. We're going to watch it here live. We're excited," said Marnie Lengle, a Cape May Court House resident.
"It's great to be out here with the Kentucky Derby going on and all the excitement surrounding that. With the Seafood Festival going on, there's a lot of delicious food to have here," said VanArsdale.
Local businesses set up shop here at the festival and say they're thrilled to see such a great turn out.
"Today is awesome. It's great exposure. We sold over 400 oysters today," said Joe Matthews, owner of Matthew's Seafood Market.
"We sold out of crab bisque, we sold out of pretzels and almost all of our meatball sandwiches," said Mimi Szegda, owner of Marabella's Restaurant.
"We are busy today which is exciting because next weekend is actually our opening for Mother's Day Weekend," said Kelsey Blum, manager of Henny's Seafood.
And as these businesses prospered this afternoon, people we spoke with say there's nothing better than spending the day outdoors, and gearing up for the summer.
"It's great to be out and around people enjoying all the festivities," said VanArsdale.
"The kids love the moon bounce. He's loving the ice cream and all the yummy food," said Danielle O'Hara, a Stone Harbor resident.
"It has been a really long winter. A lot of people are ready to get out of the snow and into the sunshine at the Jersey Shore," said Szegda.
