Early morning fire damages Ocean City home

Posted: Updated:
Firefighters are continuing to monitor a two–story Ocean City home that was engulfed in flames overnight.

It happened just before 4:00 a.m. Thursday on the 200 block of West 17th Street.

Large flames and heavy smoke were seen coming from the roof when firefighters arrived.

Strong winds and dense fog slowed their efforts to extinguish the blaze, and parts of the building were still burning more than an hour after it was first reported.

The fire was eventually brought under control, and firefighters were seen smashing windows to ventilate the second floor of the home.

Neighbors on the scene told an NBC 40 reporter that the homeowners were not inside the home during the fire.

Authorities still haven't confirmed any injuries, or what may have sparked the fire.
