Local charter school among those put on probation

Posted: Updated:
GALLOWAY TWP. - State officials announced today that they have ordered two charter schools to close and four more are being put on probation.

One of those being put on probation is Galloway Community Charter School in Atlantic County.

The school's leadership team sat down this afternoon to discuss the charter's renewal.

Galloway Community Charter School Director Deborah Nataloni told us what the probation means to her faculty.

"Probation doesn't mean for us what it may mean for another faculty," Nataloni said, "Our faculty we consider outselves in competition with ourselves."

The state renewed the school's charter for another 5 years, but says that they must create plans to address deficiencies.

The state Education Department says it's closing DUE Charter School in Camden and the Renaissance Regional Leadership Charter School in Pemberton for poor performance.
