Mayor tells employees to seek permission before talking to other members of city council

VINELAND -

A Cumberland County Mayor is reportedly telling city employees not to talk to members of the city council without his permission.

According to an associated press report, Vineland Mayor Ruben Bermudez sent an email to the city's administrative branch employees. In the email, he says the edict applies particularly to department heads. He cites a state law that says municipal council should deal with administration employees through the mayor. This is only the latest incident for Vineland's troubled city government. Opponents of Bermudez are gathering signatures in an effort to force a recall election for the mayor.

City Council President says the new edict is ``not good leadership.''
