Cape May firefighters battled an early morning blaze at an historic 131-year-old inn.
Firefighters responded to the Bedford Inn in Cape May around 5:30am and found the fire burning in the rear of the building.
Firefighters had difficulty fighting the fire due to the three–story building's "balloon" construction. The continuous open spaces between the walls makes it harder to stop fires once they've started.
The bed and breakfast at 805 Stockton Avenue was unoccupied.
One firefighter was treated a hospital for a back injury.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
