MORE THAN 1,300 GRAMS OF MARIJUANA, $17,000 IN CASH, HEROIN AND CRACK COCAINE SEIZED
Local police were busy Monday night making four drug arrests in three separate incidents within a four-hour period recovering more than 1,300 grams of suspected marijuana, 10 decks of heroin, crack cocaine and more than $17,000 in cash, according to reports.
A motor vehicle stop in the 400 block of E. Broad St. at about 6:00 PM culminated in the arrest of Hector M. Garcia, 21, of S. Pine St., after officers approaching the vehicle he was a passenger in and reportedly smelled the odor of burnt marijuana emanating from it, according to police. A subsequent search of the suspect yielded more than 130 grams of suspected marijuana on his person, according to reports.
Garcia was charged by Ptlm. Shane Sawyers with possession of the drug, possession with intent to distribute marijuana in addition to having an outstanding warrant for his arrest out of Bridgeton Municipal Court for failure to appear at a previous court appearance. Garcia was lodged in the Cumberland County Jail in lieu of $11,000 cash bail.
Approximately one hour later, officers stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of W. Broad St. and the passenger of that vehicle, a 1999 Hyundai, fled on foot after officers inquired about the smell of raw marijuana in the vehicle. The passenger, identified as Gilbert Anderson Jr., 25, of Suncrest Ave., was apprehended a short distance away on W. Commerce St. in possession of more than $17,000 in cash and a subsequent search of the vehicle yielded more than 2.5 lbs. of suspected marijuana, according to reports.
Anderson was charged Monday night by Ptlm. Joseph Camp with obstruction, resisting arrest, hindering apprehension and was also found to have an outstanding arrest warrant out of Bridgeton Municipal Court. He was lodged in the county jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail. Capt. Michael Gaimari said this morning that investigation into the marijuana found in the vehicle is continuing and did not rule out additional charges and/or arrests.
Less than three hours later Sgt. Michael Pastirko and other officers observed what they reported as a hand-to-hand transaction of suspected drugs and money on Bank St. near Washington St. near a vehicle with loud music coming from it. Officers conducting further investigation recovered approximately 10 decks of suspected heroin and numerous bags of suspect crack cocaine and a scale. More than $650 in cash was also seized, according to reports.
Charged with possession of the heroin and crack cocaine was William Mann Jr., 28, of Bank St. in addition to possession with intent to distribute the drugs and possession within 1,000 feet of school-designated property. He was lodged in the county jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail.
Also charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana was Dion Loatman, 35, of South Ave. in addition to two child support warrants and a failure to pay fines warrant out of Bridgeton Municipal Court. He was lodged in county jail under $36,010.00 bail.
Gaimari commended the officers involved who he said are members of one of the department's two Tactical Response Teams assigned to target specific high crime areas of the city.
