The state Department of Environmental Protection is urging residents to recycle used electronic devices now that the holiday gift giving season is coming to a close.
The DEP is reminding residents that televisions, computers, electronic tablets, e-book readers, printers and monitors that have been replaced by new electronic holiday gifts cannot be tossed into the trash but must be taken to designated recycling collection points as mandated by state law.
Discarded electronics may contain dangerous chemicals which if disposed of improperly could cause harm.
Many municipalities, electronics retailers, and community-based service programs, like goodwill and the salvation army, also accept these materials.
