We now have more details on what led a plane crash that killed a Northfield doctor.

Federal investigators say that the pilot, 52-year-old Gregory Voit, reported engine problems before his small airplane crashed in Virginia earlier this month.

A preliminary report from the national transportation safety board says that Gregory Voit told an air traffic controller that he was not going to make it to Charlottesville Albernarle Airport.

The six seat, single engine Beechcraft crashed two minutes later in the front yard of a house about three miles east of the airport.

The plane had left Woodpine Airport in New Jersey and was approaching the Charlottesville Airport when it crashed on December 18th.

The NTSB released its preliminary report this week. The investigation is continuing.
