Devastating news in Mullica Township. A 10 year old boy was killed in a car accident just minutes away from his home.
"It's a tragedy. I mean around the Christmas holidays," says Irma Gonzalez of Egg Harbor City.
Residents react to the sad news that a car accident took the life of 10 year old Jaiden Ohnemuller–Muskett, a fourth grader at Mullica Township School District. Just after 9:00 pm Saturday, a 911 caller reported a one-car crash on Weekstown Road between 5th Avenue and Pleasant Mills Road in Mullica Township. The car left the roadway and struck a tree.
The driver, Phillip Muskett, sustained moderate chest and leg injuries and was airlifted to Atlantic Care Regional Medical Center. Jaiden was pronounced dead at the scene.
"10 years old is extremely young. That's sad," says Christopher Graves of Egg Harbor City.
"That makes it a million times worse. You know anytime to lose a child during anytime of the year is terrible, but right before the happiest time of the year. I can't fathom what they're possibly feeling," says Judy Santiago of Mays Landing.
The cause of the accident is unknown and under investigation by the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.
"Well it was very sad because I have a nine year old son and I don't know what I would do. My kids are my world. My prayers go out to the family," says Santiago.
"Yeah, I can't even imagine honestly what they're going through," says Graves.
Anyone with information about the accident is asked to contact the Mullica Township Police Department at 609–561–7600.
