Department of Transportation urges drivers to avoid the roads

"It's fun in the snow. I really like the snow," says Kairo Herber, a child from Brigantine. "It's cold. It's wet. It's nasty," says James Okeefe of Egg Harbor Township. The kids love it.
"Yea, I don't want any school. I want to have it all the way up to my knees," says Herber.

"It's wonderful to be out here. And it's Christmas time too so it's great. Just make sure they have their hats and their gloves on and they're warm," says Sandra Gottenberg of Brigantine. And as kids enjoy the first snow fall of the season. Drivers need to be cautious on the roads.

"Be safe and watch the kids crossing the street," says Gottenberg. "Go less than thirty, forty miles per hour," says Okeefe.

"And everybody please remember to put your lights on. You cannot imagine how many people don't drive with their lights during this kind of weather. It's pathetic," says Barbara Guarracino of Somers Point.  And as the snow came down fast, the conditions on the roads grew unbearable for some drivers.

"The roads are icy and slippery. We're headed home and we're not going out of the house again today," says Guarracino. "Don't go out if you don't have to," says Dennis Sheenan, who is visiting from Ireland.  And that's what the department of transportation recommends. They're asking people to avoid unnecessary travel.

But if you have to get on the roads. "Take it easy. Take your time. You will get where you have to go as long as you go slow," says Guarracino.
