PLEASANTVILLE -

A 22-year-old man was shot dead inside a local hotel.

Police say at approximately 11 o’clock Sunday morning, Kaneil Harris' body was discovered inside the Howard Johnson Inn on the 6000 block of Black Horse Pike in Egg Harbor Township.

The dead body in the hotel hallway sparked a dramatic manhunt in Pleasantville.

Police tell NBC40 that after a vehicle description, with ties to the homicide, was spotted in nearby Pleasantville.

Icel Salazar’s aunt lives a few doors down from the house police surrounded and said, "This is the first time I’ve seen anything this big happening in this neighborhood."

Police say after trying to contact men in and around the car, they took off...leading police and other officials to the 800 block of Broad Street where neighbors watched a standoff between the suspects and police.

Salazar said, "They’re doing a great job. There are a lot of backup cops and SWAT team. They are taking care of this situation.”

Our cameras were rolling as the SWAT team entered the home. Police say they detained five men who were taken into custody by officials from the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office for further questioning.

Neighbors who witnessed Sunday’s events say they were shocked at what they saw.

Salazar told NBC40, "Well it's frightening, especially when you have kids around. You don't know what to expect. If anything goes wrong and they start shooting, something bad could happen to any of us."

Charges have not been filed at this time.

Anyone with information about this homicide is asked to call the Major Crimes Unit at 609-909-7800.
