A proposed dune project was voted down yesterday in Margate 65% to 34%.
Residents headed to the polls Tuesday to decide if they want to move forward with a proposed dune project. City officials say that now that the measure has been voted down, the dune project is up in the air due to Governor Christie's executive order allowing towns to take properties and easements to move forward with a shore protection plan. Now it up to the Margate City Commissioners to decide what the next step is.
Thomas Hiltner the City Clerk in Margate stated, "That executive order did not say that Margate you have to go along with this beach replenishment and dune project. What is was is it gave broad authority to the governor's office and the towns to obtain the easements."
