While the story has shocked the nation, its effects are being felt right here in New Jersey. The 23-year-old LAX gunman is originally from Pennsville, and had a summer home in Sea Isle City.
The Pennsville home where police say 23-year-old Paul Ciancia grew up was surrounded by police on Friday. Ciancia lived in the Salem County town before moving to Los Angeles.
"It doesn't make sense, it really doesn't" Joshua Pagan lives across the street from the Pennsville home where police say Ciancia's family still lives. "Not in a million years would I believe anyone from that family or even this town, nothing happens here."
It is believed the Ciancia's family also owned a summer home in Sea Isle City. We spoke with neighbors who didn't know Ciancia directly but say they are still in disbelief.
"I’m shocked honestly. I couldn't believe someone could do that. Someone who lives right down the street. Its unbelievable the horror, the shock that can happen in this world,” said neighbor, Joseph Torroni.
NBC40 spent most of Friday night outside of the vacation home waiting to see if the Ciancia family would show up there in hopes of avoiding the national spotlight. During the several hour wait, no one stopped at the house.
