Lights help mark one year of anniversary of Hurricane Sandy

Posted: Updated:

Residents across the state marked the anniversary of Hurricane Sandy Tuesday night, by lighting up New Jersey.

In Atlantic City, participants gathered at the Trump Plaza for the event. Participants either brought or were given flashlights to shine in unison as thousands across the state marked the one year anniversary of the storm.

The Light Up New Jersey event was organized by Townsquare Media, and coincided with its radio stations playing the "Stronger Than the Storm" song during the lighting.

Perhaps the largest participant in the light up New Jersey event was Lucy the Elephant in Margate. At 6:30, Lucy was illuminated with 29,000 watts of light, as others gathered with their flashlights to be part of the state-wide event.

Other Light Up New Jersey events in South Jersey included Ocean City and Brigantine, as well as many communities up and down the coast.
