A sinkhole in Galloway Township remains open Sunday night as crews continue to work to permanently fix the problems discovered below the surface.
It has been more than a week since the sinkhole on the side of Moss Mill Road in the Smithville section of the township was discovered. As workers from both the Atlantic County Utilities Authority and Galloway Township worked to repair the problem, initially caused by a decommissioned sewer line, structural issues were discovered with the township's sever force main. Officials said Sunday that the repairs are progressing successfully and are reaching the final stages, but residents should expect the road to remain closed into this week.
