Latest ruling allows same sex couples to marry in New Jersey

Posted: Updated:
NEW JERSEY - The latest ruling from the state supreme court allows same sex couples to get married on Monday, despite a request by the state to delay during the on-going appeals process.

The state supreme court upheld a lower court judge's ruling that same sex marriages must be allowed in New Jersey starting Monday.

The state had appealed the ruling and the New Jersey Supreme Court will begin hearing arguments in the case in January, but decided that in the meantime the marriages must be recognized.

Governor Chris Christie's administration released a statement saying that although the governor disagrees with the ruling, he is instructing municipalities to comply with the court's decision.
