Today Governor Chris Christie and the Army Corps of Engineers announced a schedule for the upcoming construction of 44 miles of protective dunes along the Jersey Coast.
As long as the regulatory steps are taken and agreements are approved, the projected start of the shore protection system in Ocean City, Upper Township and Sea Isle City is this upcoming March. Then in April, construction is scheduled to begin in Longport and Margate. The Governor's Office says once the projects are completed, most of the state's Atlantic coast communities will have protection that meet the army corps standards. Multiple dune projects have already been completed since Hurricane Sandy.
