Newark Mayor Cory Booker to fill Senate seat

NEW JERSEY - The results from New Jersey's Special U.S. Senate Election. are in and  the winner, Newark Mayor Cory Booker

Mayor Booker, a democrat defeated Republican Steve Lonegan to fill the senate seat vacated by Democrat Frank Lautenberg, who passed away in June. Here are the latest numbers with 99% of the statewide precincts reporting. Cory Booker has received nearly 713,000 votes or 55%. Steve Lonegan received 44 % of the vote.

Shortly after Cory Booker was declared the winner, both he and Steve Lonegan spoke to their supporters and the citizens of New Jersey. Cory Booker called on New Jersians to help elected officials make the changes they want to see in the state, and country. Meanwhile Steve Lonegan says he does not plan on pursuing any other political office, meanwhile he wished Senator Booker the best in his term as senator.
