Seniors get a visit to lift their spirits

Posted: Updated:

According to the Geriatric Mental Health Foundation, depression affects 15% of Americans over the age of 65. This is a problem exasperated by the shorter days and the approaching holiday season.

Enter the Bluesbusters - A group of professionals from Emeritus at Cape May. They'll be visiting seniors in their homes this month to conduct complimentary emotional wellness checks as well as providing tools and resources to engage them in activities known to fight depression.

Anne Marie Waxman, Emeritus of Cape May stated, "People get a little bit blue. So we just want to be able to visit with people like Bernice in her home and chat a bit and basically a friendly neighborly visit."

The Bluesbusters have conducted more than 70,000 free home visits nationwide.
