ATLANTIC CITY -
Ready...Set...Go! "It's a fantastic event for the city and the area," says Eric Goldstein President of the Cache Jewish Community Center. The 55th annual Atlantic City Marathon.
"It's one of the many events that keeps Atlantic City going throughout the year. We have a nice big crowd on the boardwalk today, and all these people here," he continues.
Helping to keep the shoulder economy up and running in Atlantic City, this marathon welcomed over 3,000 runners competing in two races.
"This is actually a full marathon. This is a qualifier for the Boston Marathon a full 26.2 mile marathon, we also simultaneously run a 13.1 mile half marathon," explains Goldstein.
A test of endurance, drawing runners from all over the globe.
"We have runners here from Africa, we have runners here from Europe, South America. Its an amazing event, that brings people together from all over the planet.
Like Mathew Smith from Pennsylvania, who ran the New York Marathon 4 times, and the Boston Marathon 3 times.
"This was my 11th full marathon, first time I've done Atlantic City, great course," says Smith. "The nice thing about this one, is that your right at the start and finish line. Stay at the hotel and you can walk right down," he continues.
An added bonus for these runners and the Atlantic City economy. As Smith, tends to his sore muscles and reflects on a race well run, one thing comes to mind for Matthew Smith after his 11th marathon.
"I'm a little tired, but I'll be ready for a beer or two in a couple of hours," Smith says with a smile.
