A Somers Point man who is battling cancer for the second time was honored Friday by family, friends, and community members.
Clancy's in Somers Point hosted friends and family members for a fundraiser for Robert Garbutt Junior, who was a member of the Ocean City Beach Patrol in the 1980's and is part of Atlantic City High School's athletic hall of fame for leading the 1986 crew team to a national championship.
Garbutt was not present for the fundraiser due to health risks, but family members say he is in good spirits and is ready to tackle cancer once again.
"We were face timing with him, and helping him lift his spirits. It's all around just a good thing, it's something that's needed when people go through this kind of thing because its hard to go through it alone and this goes a long way with helping," said Robert's brother Matt.
Garbutt was diagnosed with lymphoma for the second time. He is currently recovering in Michigan. Family members say he is considering moving back to the shore, after his treatment.
