EGG HARBOR TWP. - On Tuesday August 27, 2013 at approximately 3:51 pm Egg Harbor Township Police Officer Michael Finnerty took a walk-in report of the shoplifting of a television from the Shoprite in the English Creek Center, located in the Cardiff section of the township.

The complainant, a loss prevention specialist from Shoprite advised they had learned that an unknown white male with tattoos on his right arm had been committing similar thefts from numerous Shoprite & Acme stores in Cape May & Atlantic Counties.

The case was assigned to MPO Kyle Warren for follow up investigation.  An Ocean County law enforcement officer was able to identify the suspect as Christopher Hayek, 42 years old of Tuckerton, NJ.  Warren contacted Hon. H.R. Switzer, Municipal Court Judge who authorized a no bail warrant for Hayek’s arrest.

On Tuesday, September 10, 2013 Hayek was arrested by Prospect Park Police in Pennsylvania.  He was then transported back to New Jersey, by Detective Robert Harte, after waiving extradition on Monday, September 30, 2013.  Hayek was subsequently lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility on several shoplifting warrants out of Egg Harbor Township, Hammonton, Sea Isle City and Lower Township with a total bail set at $57,500.00.  He also had an additional warrant for $600.00 out of Cherry Hill Township.
