Mayor releases statement on AC Police allegedly using excessive force

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTIC CITY - The mayor of Atlantic City has asked the state Attorney General's Office to investigate allegations of excessive force used by Atlantic City Police in the arrest of a 20-year-old Linwood man.

The Castellani family says they are suing the city for what they claim was the use of excessive force in the June arrest of David Connor Castellani outside the Tropicana Casino and Hotel.

The family says the use of a K-9 unit was unnecessary and are hoping the lawsuit will result in the K-9 units being taken off the street.

Tuesday, Atlantic City Mayor Lorenzo Langford released a statement, saying that he has asked for the state's Attorney General's Office to oversee the investigation and for the United State's Department of Justice to be involved.

Langford says that he found the images on the surveillance video disturbing.
