Dead dolphin washes up near Brigantine seawall

Posted: Updated:
The dolphin death toll is up to 103 in the Garden State.

That's according to officials with the Marine Mammal Stranding Center.

The latest dolphin washed up at about 7:30 Thursday morning by the Brigantine seawall.

Officials from the stranding center say the animal was emaciated and likely died form some combination of starvation and pneumonia.

Hundreds of dolphins washed up on beaches up and down the coast this year. Officials from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration say that the Morbilli-virus may be to blame.

That figure of 103 deaths shatters the state's previous record of 93.
