Residents of a Millville community are in disbelief, after hearing the news that police arrested one of their neighbors for causing the death of his own infant daughter.
"That's what the reports are. I don't know. It's not the Andrew that I know." Peggy Gaskill has known Andrew Rieger for years. She lives down the street from his East Oak Drive home.
"I use to baby sit him when he was little, and I never had a lick of trouble with him. He was always easy going." That's why when Gaskill heard that Rieger had been arrested for causing his own baby daughters death, she couldn't believe it. "I was shocked. I just found out recently that he had a baby."
Police where called to the Inspira Medical Center on Thursday around 5:00 A.M. to investigate suspicious injuries inflicted on an 11 week old girl. The child sustained multiple injuries and head trauma. This is when Rieger, who is 25 years old, was charged with aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
The baby died from her injuries two days later. When the infant died his charges and bail were increased. Rieger is now being charged with aggravated manslaughter.
We attempted to speak with the mother, but no one was at Rieger's home.
"I've seen his girlfriend when she was pregnant, they use to walk. They would walk with the dog down the road." One neighbor, who chose not to give us her name, says she has not seen the mother visit Rieger since the child was born. "I think it had to be an accident. He's been through a lot."
Rieger is currently being held at the Cumberland County Jail on one million dollars bail. The investigation is still on going. The Millville Police Department and the Cumberland County Prosecutors Office are handling the case
