MAYS LANDING -
Tuesday, Atlantic Cape Community College had a special unveiling.
The school's student government association and environmental club publicly unveiled a new type of water fountain at the college's Mays Landing campus. The fountain is an effort to cut down on the amount of plastic bottles that are used and thrown out every day, by allowing students to use refillable water bottles. Students have already filled up more than a thousand bottles of water according to school officials, something they're watching closely to determine the future of the fountains.
"We'll watch the counter and we'll listen to the students to see if they want to help pay for the other two. But it will be easier to do because there's a new building going up," said Dr. Richard Perniciaro, Dean of Facilities, Planning & Research.
School officials are also considering installing the fountains at the Atlantic City and Cape May Court House campuses.
