Atlantic City Firefighters Union raising money for Muscular Dystrophy Association

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTIC CITY - Members of the Atlantic City Firefighters Union, were on the boardwalk all day Friday, but they weren't fighting flames.
Members of Local 198 have been out all day, collecting donations for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, or MDA.

The goal is to "fill the boot" with donations from passerbys on the boardwalk.

The yearly fundraiser takes place every labor day weekend, and early morning clouds made for a slow start, but President Christopher Emmell didn't seem concerned.

"You see the boardwalk when we got here at 10 this morning there was like hardly anyone, now it's starting to fill right up, so once it fills up, we'll start doing real good," said Emmell.
Each year these firefighters hope to raise $20,000 for MDA.

The money helps pay for medical expenses, and camps for kids with muscular dystrophy.
