Help is soon on the way for small business Marina owners.
"We're persistent and we're resilient and we're not going anywhere," says Brian Tersaga owner of All Seasons Marina in Marmora.
Tersaga, is relieved his marina survived the devastation of Hurricane Sandy.
"If you would have stand on top of the bridge behind me, you would have looked down and seen nothing but water with some buildings popping out of it," explains Tersaga.
But now, ten months after the storm hit, his business is still on the road to recovery. Some much needed aid was recently announced by the Governors office, that will broaden eligibility for family owned small business marinas. Making more funds available for marina owners like Tersaga.
"Sandy afforded us an opportunity not only to rebuild which we had to, but also refurbish, renovate and improve to some extent," he says.
Additionally, this policy will enable the Stronger New Jersey Business Grant for marinas impacted by Sandy. Which will also offer more financial relief for these marinas, like the debris removal program that saved Tersaga thousands.
"We had broken docks from Ocean City and Somers Point. We must have taken 6 to 8 dumpsters full of debris that wasn't even our own debris," explains Tersaga.
With a dredging project coming this fall, this marina will be one step closer to being able to operate at full capacity.
"If we continue to improve each year, then its still going to be 3 to 4 years before we're operating at full," claims Tersaga.
Applications for Stronger NJ Business Grants must be received on or by October 31, 2013.
