A local police department shares burgers and information with its community.
The Somers Point Police Department along with several local businesses and services held a community barbeque Thursday at the Somers Point Apartments in an effort to connect with those they serve.
Law enforcement officials say that they hope Thursday's event will help residents feel comfortable with police so that when something happens they will readily reach out.
"We are here for them, to protect their area as well as be a voice. If they want to come ask us some questions they don't have to be afraid to come talk to the police," said Lt. Anthony DiSciascio.
All of the food and fun for Thursday's event were donated by local businesses.
