The Somers Point Police Department is launching a new rapid emergency notification service called Code Red.
This new system will distribute emergency messages via telephone to targeted areas or even the entire city at a rate of 1,000 calls per minute. Somers Point Police say the new technology will be vital in helping to spread information about emergencies more efficiently.
"It's geographically specific so if something is happening in one area of town it will advise that area and if it's wide spread it'll advise the whole town," said Lt. Anthony DiSciascio.
Residents can begin to register for the alert system on the Somers Point after Labor Day.
