Dolphins washing ashore had pneumonia

Late Sunday night a dolphin washed up on the 4th street beach in North Wildwood, this was the 16th dolphin since July 9th to wash up on the Jersey Shore dead.

The first of 6 dolphins in just a week's time washed up in Long Beach Twp. on July 18th.

Of those six, officials at the Marine Mammal Stranding Center says that 4 had pneumonia.

The results of the necropsies of the other two and the one that came ashore last night are pending.

One of the dolphins did have shark bites on it's body, however officials believed that happened after the mammal had already died.
