ATLANTIC CITY -

Helicopters from the Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City were in the air last night, but it wasn't’t a practice for the air show.

The Coast Guard airlifted two elderly women from a cruise ship about 80 miles off the coast of Atlantic City late Tuesday night.

The women, ages 73 and 81 both suffered different medical emergencies, a cardiac emergency and a head injury, that required immediate attention.

The Carnival "Splendor" contacted the Coast Guard around 10:30 Tuesday night and asked for assistance.

The Coast Guard took the women to the Atlanticare Regional Medical Center and both women were in critical condition.
