ATLANTIC COUNTY -

An Atlantic City woman accused of trying to defraud FEMA following a nor'easter was sentenced on Tuesday.

52-year-old Debbie Hicks pled guilty to stealing benefit money from FEMA following a nor'easter that the president declared a natural disaster in 2010.

In April of 2010, Hicks filed an application requesting FEMA rental assistance because her Atlantic City Apartment was damaged because of the storm.

But in that application Gicks failed to mention that her rent was already being paid by the Atlantic County Department of Family and Community Development.

Hicks received more than $15,000 from FEMA.

Hicks has been sentenced to 27 months in prison and has been ordered to pay restitution.
